Ever since the play's creation more than 40 years ago, Les Misérables has risen up from a short-lived musical sung in French produced in Paris to one of the most highly-awarded and fan favorite shows in the entire world. Over the past 40 years that the play has been ongoing, Les Mis has been performed in 22 different languages, in 53 countries, and has been watched by over 130 million people worldwide.
In November, the musical’s run brings it to a new location in Minneapolis, where Les Mis will be hosted in Orpheum Theatre on Wednesday 20th November 2024. Orpheum Theatre was purposefully created and constructed as the leading entertainment venue of Minneapolis, accommodating a well-crafted stage and seating setup that is big enough to host a show of this scale, in addition to appropriate services that are available in the theater.
The musical is centered on the life of Jean Valjean, a parolee desperately seeking redemption after breaks free from parole. Jean Valjean's full tale, and his ultimate fate, are performed fully through song from the beginning to the end of the incredible show. The Broadway musical being lyricized from beginning to end is a storytelling tactic that this show has over other known theater shows, and is the primary cause why every moment and act always stuns its viewers, depicting each personal struggle in every phrase or note sung.
The musical is creatively executed and because of this method, the show is also overflowing with memorable ballads and anthems. Interestingly, despite the collection of numbers that can be heard in Les Mis, every single cast member in the play is able to be highlighted, with each individual number revealing a deeper sense of their character. Neither theatergoers nor film viewers of Les Mis can forget Fantine’s “I Dreamed A Dream”, which brings with it a deep tragedy and has been covered countlessly by famous performers in present-day cinema. “Bring Him Home” also emotionally creates one of the musical's best moments, subtly showing us the redemption of Valjean's character in just one absolutely unsurpassed song.
