The Book of Mormon, one of the most successful shows in Broadway history, will now be available in Minneapolis! and performing at Orpheum Theatre on Thursday 12th December 2024!
Centered on the missionary journey of an odd pair of two Mormon missionaries, Kevin Price and Arnold Cunningham, the Book of Mormon showcases the theme of religion and religious storytelling, and presents it in a fresh comedic light. The two missionaries are given a mission to preach to the residents of a local village in Uganda, who turn out to be facing more important challenges than what they aim to preach.
The Book of Mormon was conceptualized back in 2003 by creators Trey Parker, Matt Stone, and Robert Lopez, continuing on to its debut in 2011. Since then, the Book of Mormon has become one of the most financially successful Broadway musicals in history, with repeatedly full houses for over a decade.
The Book of Mormon will only be performing in Minneapolis’s Orpheum Theatre for a limited period this winter. Don’t wait for seats to run out on this popular Thursday showing!

Debuting in 2011, The Book of Mormon has undoubtedly been one of the most thriving Broadway musicals since its opening. A collaboration by Trey Parker, Matt Stone, and Robert Lopez, the musical is based on the Latter-day Saints (LDS) founder and prophet Joseph Smith complete with his Book of Mormon. The show was intended to debut off Broadway at the New York Theatre workshop after its 2008 staged reading, though this turned out to be just a prelude as its actual launch in 2011 moved to a more known location at the Eugene O’Neill Theatre.
Because of a successful first year, the Book of Mormon was already greenlit for a U.S. national tour that lasted four years, including a season in Salt Lake City, Utah, which marked the first time it would be performed there. The show also continued on to be produced in several locations, with a Chicago production performed in 2012, a West End production in 2013, and Australian and Swedish productions both performed in 2017.
The storytelling and satire of this musical were key elements to this success. It shares the story of Elder Kevin Price and Elder Arnold Cunningham, two Mormon missionaries who embark on a mission to convert locals in a remote village in Uganda. It is there that they contend with completing their mission, as well as their different methods in teaching their religion, given that Cunningham lies to the villagers by injecting hilarious tales woven from science fiction and fantasy stories into his sermons, while Price is bent on teaching the villagers in the usual, orthodox manner. The way the Book of Mormon is shared with the audience is staged in quite an unorthodox manner as well, usually making fun of religion in its script and also injecting humor in both of its acts, including its upbeat showtunes.
For its current season, the Book of Mormon will be in Minneapolis in December at the grand theatre venue of Orpheum Theatre, which holds an outstanding stage, sound system and acoustics, and premier facilities that is fit for this word-class show.
