What would you say when you have an entire showcase featuring a boat, a tiger, and a young man? Well, in this award-winning epic, it’s not just a limited story but a whole plethora of flashbacks and reflections that keep audiences at the edge of their seat! There’s so much more than meets the eye. Life of Pi is an example of excellent storytelling that teaches audiences incredible (and useful) life lessons. The young man Pi survived a disastrous shipwreck and escaped on a lifeboat. But he’s not alone, some animals from the boat also escaped and stowed away on the vessel, one of which is the humongous Bengal tiger. Pi named the beast, Richard Parker. Now, Pi doesn’t just need to survive the rough ocean, he also needs to make sure that Richard Parker is fed or else the tiger will eat him. But this struggle to keep the animal fed turns into a his arduous mission, which will eventually become the drive for his will to live. Now, this story doesn’t totally revolve only with the animal and the young man, flashbacks of Pi’s eventful past will come into play and bring in some great reflection and reminiscing. 

Life of Pi premiered in Sheffield in 2019, followed by a sensational run in London’s West End in 2021 and extended all the way to 2023. The play finally hit Broadway in 2023 after a thrilling but brief North American trek. This 2024, the showcase will be embarking on its first major national tour, conquering over 20 cities. Based on the Man-Booker prize winning novel by Yann Martel, Life of Pi features a great storyline by Lolita Chakrabarti. The production features amazing work by Olivier Award-winning director Max Webster, as well as a fantastic score by award-winning composer Andrew McKay. The play also showcases astounding stagecraft by some of Broadway and West End’s top theater designers, including Tony winning set and costume designer Tim Hatley, video designer Andrzej Goulding, Tony winning sound designer Carolyn Downing, and Tony winning lighting designer Tim Lutkin. The production also presents brilliant puppets thanks to superb artistry from Puppet and movement director and puppet designer Finn Caldwell. 

Thanks to outstanding work by this creative team Life of Pi had received a staggering amount of accolades, such as five Lawrence Olivier Awards including Best New Play, three Tony Awards, four Drama Desk Awards, two Outer Critics Circle Awards, and a BroadwayWorld Award.
