The story follows the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, starting in the present day with Westenberg inside in a therapist’s office. The Broadway show, written by the four-time Academy Award-nominated Anthony McCarten, was produced by Robert Gaudio and the two-time Tony Award-winner Ken Davenport. With over 60 years of Diamond’s music, the team created a “musical collage” with showtunes that take on "lives of their own”, as McCarten stated in an interview with The Boston Globe for the Neil Diamond Musical.

Those same fans will never forget seeing the musical of the same name LIVE as it came to Minneapolis. The jukebox musical entranced audiences from the opening act with a full mesmerizing Broadway show and uplifting songs.
The musical soon ended up on NYC Broadway, running from late 2022 into early 2024 at the Broadhurst Theatre. Talents like Will Swenson (who played the young Neil Diamond), Mark Jacoby (present-day Diamond), and Linda Powell (The Doctor) all delivered fantastic performances after the Boston production.
The show quickly took to the road. Now, new faces make up the traveling cast, including the American Idol winner, Nick Fradiani. Fradiani announced he would play the role of the young Neil Diamond.
